Education and experience
Dr. Jose Chacon received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in South America, at the University of the Andes, Venezuela. He moved to New York and Texas to complete his post-graduate training. A dual trainee in orofacial pain and orthodontics, Dr. Chacon graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he completed his three-year post-doctoral program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. This school is considered to be one of the top dental schools in the US.
Following orthodontic graduation, Dr. Chacon became a certified dental specialist in orthodontics in the state of Illinois, where he has been practicing since 2003. He became a board-certified orthodontist in 2007.
In addition to his training in orthodontics, Dr. Chacon completed a Master of Science degree in oral sciences at the School of Dental Medicine in Buffalo, New York. During the time he was in New York he also completed a two-year, full-time training in orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders.
Continuing education and professional affiliations
Dr. Chacon attends several continuing education courses per year at the local, national, and international levels. He is also an active member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society, American Association of Orthodontists, American Board of Orthodontics, and Midwestern Society of Orthodontists.
Outside the office
When he is not with his patients, Dr. Chacon enjoys spending time with his family and participating in outdoor activities such as downhill skiing, tennis, and running. He has volunteered for mission trips to underserved areas in Central America, treating patients in extremely poor conditions. He has also participated in local orthodontic efforts to treat underserved patients in the Chicago community with the American Association of Orthodontists through orthodontic donated services.
