What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a convenient and discreet orthodontic treatment that uses a series of translucent aligner trays to straighten your smile. The trays are custom-fitted to your teeth and are used sequentially to shift your bite into optimal alignment over time using gentle pressure. Invisalign clear braces fit comfortably and securely and provide effective teeth straightening with minimal impact on your daily life. They fit seamlessly into your busy schedule as well, often requiring fewer visits to the dentist when compared to traditional braces.

Because Invisalign braces are removable, you won't have to alter your diet or worry about cleaning around brackets and wires. Invisalign treatment relies on patients wearing trays for a minimum of 22 hours a day, and the process of straightening your smile generally takes between 12-18 months, depending on your needs.

Is Invisalign a Good Option for Me?

Invisalign is a versatile orthodontic option that can solve many alignment issues. If you are experiencing complications from any of the following issues or simply want a more aesthetically pleasing smile, you may be a great candidate for Invisalign braces:

  • Crowding
  • Crooked teeth
  • Unwanted gaps between teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Painful bite

While Invisalign is a great choice for straightening teeth in many situations, our practice has had the best results using it for mild to moderate cases. If your needs are more advanced, our friendly orthodontists will talk to you about other treatments we can provide that can more effectively treat your unique misalignment issues.

Our Aurora Invisalign Treatment Process

When you come in for your initial consultation for Invisalign braces, we'll start by discussing your smile goals and answering any questions you have. We'll then perform a thorough dental examination to determine if clear braces are the correct treatment option for you. Once we've gathered the necessary diagnostic information to ensure Invisalign will be able to deliver the straight smile you want, we can begin the process immediately.

We take precise impressions of your teeth that will serve as the model for your Invisalign trays. Our orthodontist sends these impressions to a trusted dental lab where your clear braces are carefully crafted. Once we receive the trays at our practice, you'll return for a fitting appointment, where we'll make sure the trays fit comfortably. We can make any minor adjustments at this time to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.

Our team will offer detailed guidelines to maximize your treatment success. We'll also answer any questions and give you oral hygiene and care tips for your new Invisalign braces. To meet you at your comfort, we also offer SureSmile® clear aligners and are available to discuss the merits of each option.

Caring for Your Clear Braces

Caring for your Invisalign braces is a vital part of promoting the overall success of your treatment, and we'll provide you with detailed instructions for maintaining your clear aligners in our office. However, some of the important care instructions to keep in mind include:

Eating & Drinking: Invisalign aligners must be removed when eating or drinking anything other than water. If you eat or drink while wearing them, food and beverages can get caught in the trays, causing issues like discoloration and foul odors. After eating, brush your teeth to remove particles that might remain before putting the trays back on.

Keeping Invisalign Braces Clean: You should rinse your aligners with water before putting them back on whenever you remove them. Your trays also need a thorough cleaning at least once daily using clear, scentless antibacterial soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush. After cleaning with soap, thoroughly rinse the trays before replacing them. You should never use hard-bristled toothbrushes or toothpaste to avoid scratching or damaging them.

Keeping Invisalign Braces Safe: Because your aligner trays are small and translucent, you'll want to do everything possible to keep track of them. We recommend putting them in their carrying case any time you take them off so you can avoid accidentally throwing them away or misplacing them. If you do end up losing a tray, you should contact our dentist immediately, and continue wearing the previous set until we can get you a new tray.
